1. Frontline Combo Spot-On Cat
Dosage
One pipette of 0.5 ml per cat, corresponding to a minimum recommended dose of 5 mg/kg for fipronil and 6 mg/kg for (S)-methoprene, by topical application to the skin.
In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
Method of administration
Hold the pipette upright. Tap the narrow part of the pipette to ensure the contents remain within the main body of the pipette. Snap back the tip. Part the coat on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze the pipette several times to empty its contents completely and directly onto the skin in one spot.
2. Frontline Combo Spot-On Dog
Dosage
1 pipette of 0.67 ml (S) per dog weighing over 2 and up to 10 kg;
1 pipette of 1.34 ml (M) per dog weighing over 10 kg and up to 20 kg;
1 pipette of 2.68 ml (L) per dog weighing over 20 kg and up to 40 kg;
1 pipette of 4.02 ml (XL) per dog weighing over 40 kg;
corresponding to a minimum recommended dose of 6.7 mg/kg for fipronil and 6 mg/kg for (S)-methoprene, by topical application to the skin.
In the absence of safety studies the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
3. Frontline Spot-On Cat
Route of administration
By topical application to the skin.
Dosage
1 pipette of 0.5 ml per cat (approximately 7.5 - 15 mg/kg).
Method of administration
Hold upright. Tap the narrow part of the pipette to ensure that the contents are within the main body of the pipette. Break back the snap-off top of the spot-on pipette along the scored line. Part the coat between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze gently to empty its contents onto the skin, preferably at two spots, one at the base of the skull and a second 2-3 cms further back.
Care should be taken to avoid excessive wetting of the hair with the product since this will cause a sticky appearance of hairs at the treatment spot. However, should this occur, it will disappear within 24 hours post application.
In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
It is important to apply the dose to an area where the animal cannot lick off and to make sure that animals do not lick each other after treatment. If licking does occur, a brief period of hypersalivation may be observed, due mainly to the nature of the carrier. Ensure that treated animals do not groom each other after treatment until dry.
4. Frontline Spot-On Dog
Route of administration
By topical application to the skin.
Dosage
1 pipette of 0.67 ml per dog weighing over 2 kg and up to 10 kg bodyweight (approximately 7.5 - 15 mg/kg).
1 pipette of 1.34 ml per dog weighing over 10 kg and up to 20 kg bodyweight (approximately 7.5 - 15 mg/kg).
1 pipette of 2.68 ml per dog weighing over 20 kg and up to 40 kg bodyweight (approximately 7.5 - 15 mg/kg).
1 pipette of 4.02 ml per dog weighing over 40 kg and up to 60 kg bodyweight (approximately 7.5 – 15 mg/kg).
For dogs over 60 kg bodyweight, use two pipettes of 2.68 ml.
Method of administration
Hold upright. Tap the narrow part of the pipette to ensure the contents are within the main body of the pipette. Break back the snap-off top of the spot-on pipette along the scored line. Part the coat between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze gently at one or two spots to empty its contents onto the skin.
Care should be taken to avoid excessive wetting of the hair with the product since this will cause a sticky appearance of hairs at the treatment spot. However, should this occur, it will disappear within 24 hours post application.
In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
5. Frontline Spray
Method of administration
Adjust the pump nozzle to the spray setting. Spray the entire body of the animal, and apply from a distance of approximately 10 - 20 cm. Apply against the lay of the hair and make sure the entire coat of the animal is dampened. Ruffle the coat, especially in long haired animals, so that the product penetrates down to the skin. For treatment of the head region, and when treating young and nervous pets, application may be carried out by spraying onto a gloved hand and rubbing the product into the coat. Allow to dry naturally. Do not towel dry.
Dosage
In order to dampen the coat down to the skin, depending on the length of the hair, apply 3 to 6 ml per kg bodyweight, (7.5 to 15 mg of active ingredient per kg bodyweight) i.e. 6 to 12 pump applications per kg bodyweight of the 100 ml presentation, or 2 to 4 pump applications of the 250 or 500 ml presentations.
The 100ml pack contains approximately 8 treatments for a short haired medium sized cat (4kg). The 250ml pack contains approximately 4 treatments for a short haired medium sized dog (20kg). The 500ml pack contains approximately 8 treatments for a short haired medium sized dog (20kg).
The formulation contains a glossing agent. Therefore, spraying builds up a film and makes the fur glossy.
In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
1. Frontline Combo Spot-On Cat
For animal treatment only.
In the absence of available data, the product should not be used on kittens less than 8 weeks old and/or weighing less than 1 kg. No undesirable effects were observed in target animal safety studies in cats and kittens aged 8 weeks and older and weighing about 1 kg treated once a month at five times the recommended dose for six consecutive months. The risk of experiencing adverse effects may however increase with overdosing.
The product can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Do not use on sick (systemic diseases, fever…) or convalescent animals.
Do not use in rabbits, as adverse reactions and even death could occur.
Do not overdose.
It is important to make sure that the product is applied to an area where the animal cannot lick it off and to make sure that animals do not lick each other following treatment. If licking occurs, a brief period of hypersalivation may be observed due mainly to the nature of the carrier.
No data on the effect of bathing/shampooing on the efficacy of the product in cats are available. However, based on information available for dogs shampooed from 2 days after application of the product, it is not recommended to bath animals within 2 days after application of the product.
There may be an attachment of single ticks. For this reason transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
Fleas from pets often infest the animal's basket, bedding and regular resting areas such as carpets and soft furnishings which should be treated, in case of massive infestation and at the beginning of the control measures, with a suitable insecticide and vacuumed regularly.
There are no known interactions with other medications.
Itching may occur following treatment.
Overdose application of the product will cause a sticky appearance of hairs at the treatment spot. However, should this occur, it will disappear within 24 hours post application.
Among the extremely rare suspected adverse reactions, transient cutaneous reactions at the application site (scaling, local alopecia, pruritus, erythema) and general pruritus or alopecia have been reported after use. Exceptionally, hypersalivation, reversible neurological signs (hyperaesthesia, depression, nervous signs) or vomiting have been observed after use.
Avoid contact with the animal’s eyes.
Animals with a known hypersensitivity to insecticides or alcohol should avoid contact with FRONTLINE Combo Spot On Cat.
Operator safety:

Dispose of gloves after use and then wash hands with soap and water.
Wash splashes from skin with soap and water immediately. If irritation occurs, seek medical advice. People with known skin sensitivity or asthma may be particularly sensitive to FRONTLINE Spray. Do not use the product if you have previously experienced a reaction to it.
Treatment of multiple animals
Good ventilation is particularly important where several animals are to be treated. Treat multiple animals outside, or reduce the build up of vapour by removing the animals from the treatment room while the alcohol is evaporating and ensure that the treatment room is well ventilated between individual treatments. In addition, ensure that the drying room is well ventilated and avoid housing several recently treated animals within the same air space.
1. Frontline Combo Spot-On Cat & 2. Frontline Combo Spot-on Dog
The product is an insecticidal and acaricidal solution for topical use, containing an adulticidal active ingredient, fipronil, in combination with an ovicidal and larvicidal active ingredient, (S)-methoprene.
Fipronil is an insecticide and acaricide belonging to the phenylpyrazole family. It acts by interacting with ligand-gated chloride channels, in particular those gated by the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), thereby blocking pre- and post-synaptic transfer of chloride ions across cell membranes. This results in uncontrolled activity of the central nervous system and death of insects or acarines. Fipronil kills fleas within 24 hours, ticks (Dermacentor variabilis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes ricinus, Haemaphysalis longicornis, Haemaphysalis flava, Haemaphysalis campanulata) and lice within 48 hours post-exposure.
(S)-Methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) of the class of compounds known as juvenile hormone analogues that inhibit the development of immature stages of insects. This compound mimics the action of juvenile hormone and causes impaired development and death of the developing stages of fleas. The on-animal ovicidal activity of (S)-methoprene results from either direct penetration of the eggshell of newly laid eggs or from absorption through the cuticle of the adult fleas. (S)-methoprene is also effective in preventing flea larvae and pupae from developing, which prevents contamination of the environment of treated animals with the immature stages of fleas.
Both (S)-methoprene and fipronil are well-distributed in the haircoat of cats within 24 hours after application. The concentrations of fipronil and (S)-methoprene in the haircoat decrease with time and are detectable for at least 59 days after dosing. Parasites are killed through contact rather than by systemic exposure.
No pharmacological interaction between fipronil and (S)-methoprene was noted.
3. Frontline Spot-On Cat
Fipronil is a member of the phenylpyrazole family of non-systemic insecticides/acaricides, which acts by blocking the GABA receptor to kill the target parasite on contact.
FRONTLINE Spot On Cat is effective against fleas for up to 5 weeks in cats and prevents re-infestation with all stages of Rhipicephalus spp., Dermacentor spp., and Ixodes spp. ticks for up to one month, depending on the level of environmental challenge. Newly arriving fleas are killed within 24 hours of landing on the animal. Re-treatment may safely be carried out at one month intervals.
FRONTLINE Spot On Cat is licensed for use as part of a strategy for the treatment of Flea Allergy Dermatitis. For this condition, monthly application to the allergic patient and to other cats in the household is recommended.
FRONTLINE Spot On Cat does not prevent ticks attaching to the animal, but ticks will be killed in the first 24-48 hours after attachment. Once dead, ticks will often drop off the animal, but any remaining ticks may easily be removed by a gently pull, preferably using tweezers. There may be an attachment of single ticks. For this reason transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completed excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
For optimum control of flea problems in a multi-pet household, all dogs and cats in the household should be treated with a suitable insecticide. Fleas from pets often infest the animal's basket, bedding and regular resting areas such as carpets and soft furnishings which should be treated, in case of massive infestation and at the beginning of the control measures, with a suitable insecticide and vacuumed regularly.
When treating infestations of lice, all in-contact cats should be treated with an appropriate product at the same time.
Laboratory studies using fipronil have not shown any teratogenic or embryotoxic effect.
The safety of the product was demonstrated in breeding, pregnant and lactating queens treated with multiple consecutive doses with up to 3 times the maximum recommended dose. FRONTLINE Spot On Cat can be used in breeding, pregnant and lactating queens.
No adverse effects have been seen in cats and kittens aged 8 weeks or older and weighing about 1kg treated monthly with five times the recommended dose for six consecutive months. However, the risk of adverse effects may increase with overdosing. Itching may occur following treatment.
After the topical application of FRONTLINE Spot On Cat, the products will spread from the site of treatment to cover the entire surface of the animal within 24 hours. After application, absorption of fipronil through the skin is negligible.
No known incompatibilities exist for the use of other insecticides or flea control products concurrently with FRONTLINE Spot On Cat.
There are no data available on the effect of bathing and shampooing on the efficacy of FRONTLINE Spot On Cat in cats. However, based on information available for dogs shampooed from 2 days after application of the product, it is not recommend to bath animals within 2 days after application of FRONTLINE Spot On Cat.
The alcohol carrier may have adverse effects on painted, varnished or other household surfaces or furnishings.
4. Frontline Spot-On Dog
Fipronil is a member of the phenylpyrazole family of non-systemic insecticides/acaricides, which acts by blocking the GABA receptor to kill the target parasite on contact.
FRONTLINE Spot On Dog is effective against flea infestation for approximately two months and against tick infestation for up to one month, depending on the level of environmental challenge. Newly arriving fleas are killed within 24 hours of landing on the animal. Re-treatment may safely be carried out at one month intervals.
FRONTLINE Spot On Dog is licensed for use as part of a strategy for the treatment of Flea Allergy Dermatitis. For this condition, monthly application to the allergic patient and to other dogs in the household is recommended.
FRONTLINE Spot On Dog does not prevent all ticks attaching to the animal, but ticks will be killed in the first 24 - 48 hours after attachment, prior to full engorgement and therefore minimising the risk of transmission of disease. Once dead, ticks will often drop off the animal, but any remaining ticks may easily be removed by a gentle pull, preferably using tweezers.
When treating infestations of lice, all in-contact dogs should be treated with an appropriate product at the same time.
Laboratory studies using fipronil have not shown any teratogenic or embryotoxic effect. The safety of the product was demonstrated in breeding, pregnant and lactating bitches treated with multiple consecutive doses with up to 3 times the maximum recommended dose. FRONTLINE Spot On Dog can be used in breeding, pregnant and lactating bitches.
No adverse effects were seen in 8-week old puppies, growing dogs and dogs weighing about 2 kg treated once at five times the recommended dose. The risk of adverse effects may increase when overdosing, so animals should always be treated with the correct pipette size according to bodyweight. Safety data are not available for use of the product in animals less than 8 weeks of age.
After the topical application of FRONTLINE Spot On Dog, the product will spread from the site of treatment to cover the entire surface of the animal within 24 hours. After application, absorption of fipronil through the skin is slight.
No known incompatibilities exist for the use of other insecticides or flea control products concurrently with FRONTLINE Spot On Dog.
Bathing or shampooing the animal up to one hour prior to treatment does not affect the efficacy of the product. Bathing/immersion in water within 2 days after application of the product and more frequent bathing than once a week should be avoided, as no study has been performed to investigate how this affects the efficacy of the product. Emollient shampoos can be used prior to treatment, but reduce the duration of protection against fleas to approximately 5 weeks when used weekly after application of the product. Weekly bathing with a 2% chlorhexidine medicated shampoo did not affect efficacy against fleas during a 6 week long study.
The alcohol carrier may have adverse effects on painted, varnished or other household surfaces or furnishings.
5. Frontline Spray
Fipronil is a member of the phenylpyrazole family of broad spectrum, non-systemic, insecticides/acaricides, which acts by blocking the GABA receptor to kill the target parasite on contact. It exhibits insecticidal and acaricidal activity against fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.), ticks (Rhipicephalus spp. and Ixodes spp.) and lice (Trichodectes spp. and Felicola spp.) in the dog and cat. FRONTLINE Spray may aid in the control of a number of ectoparasite species in dogs and cats including Neotrombicula autumnalis, Sarcoptes spp. and Cheyletiella spp. Treatment with FRONTLINE Spay has been shown to result in a significant reduction in the incidence of flea allergy dermatitis in both dogs and cats. When used as part of a strategy for the treatment of flea allergy dermatitis, monthly applications to the allergic patient and to other cats and dogs in the household are recommended. FRONTLINE Spray is active for up to 3 months against fleas in dogs and up to 2 months in cats depending on the environmental challenge. It is effective against tick infestations for up one month in dogs and cats, depending on the level of environmental challenge.
Puppies and kittens from 2 days of age may be safely treated.
FRONTLINE Spray does not prevent all ticks attaching to the animal, but ticks will be killed within the first 24 - 48 hours. Once dead, ticks will often drop off the animal, but any remaining ticks may easily be removed by a gentle pull, preferably using tweezers. There may be an attachment of single ticks. For this reason a transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
Treatment of bedding, carpets and soft furnishings with a suitable insecticide will aid reduction in environmental challenge and maximise the duration of protection against re-infestation provided by the product. FRONTLINE Spray is not suitable for direct treatment of the environment.
Bathing or shampooing up to four times in two months has been shown to have no significant effect on the residual efficacy of FRONTLINE Spray. Monthly treatment is recommended when more frequent shampooing is carried out. (Refer also to the 'Warnings' section of this data sheet).
In the absence of specific tolerance and efficacy data, FRONTLINE Spray is not recommended for the treatment of species other than cats and dogs.
